Mazda M5OD-R2 (M5R2) Manual Transmission

M5OD-R2 Transmission Specs, Ratios, Information

The Mazda M5OD-R2 transmission, often referred simply as the "Mazda R2", is a top loaded overdrive transmission found in various 1988 to 2008 model year F-150 pickups and fullsize Broncos. It is fully synchronized and features a relatively tall 1st gear that some may find undesirable and uncharacteristic of a truck transmission. "R2" refers to the fact that the transmission is the second revision of the Mazda M5OD platform, with the first revision (M5OD-R1) being a much lighter duty transmission found in various Ford Ranger and Mazda B Series applications. The R2 was only used in applications that featured the 300 I-6, 4.2L V-6, 5.0L V-8, and 4.6L V-8 engines - the transmission was not available behind larger engines such as the 351W and 5.4L V-8.
